The Gothic Volunteer alliance was originally founded in reaction to violence against subcultures. Founding members of this organization have been victims of violence for no other reason than "being different". Events like the murder of Sophie Lancaster illustrate that hate against subcultures is a global problem. The founding members of this organization feel a special bond to the pains and sorrows of the friends and family of Sophie Lancaster.
